FACTC's Role in Animal Control Officer Training

The Florida Animal Control Training Commission maintains training records for all animal control officers in the state of Florida.  Currently, only the American Animal Cruelty Investigations School (AACIS) and the Florida Animal Control Association (FACA) are the only approved animal control officer training programs in the state of Florida. .  While AACIS and FACA each maintain training records internally, AACIS shares their certification registry with FACTC to maintain a statewide registry of certified animal control officers. Animal control officers certified through AACIS will automatically have their training information sent to FACTC, where animal control officers certified under the FACA will have to manually submit their training information to FACTC through a portal in this website.

Tracking Continuing Education Requirements

In addition to their initial training certification, animal control officers will also be able to track their continuing education training as required under Chapter 828.27 Florida Statutes. Currently, all courses provided by the American Animal Cruelty Investigations School are eligible for CEU credits and are automatically reported to FACTC. Although FACTC also recognizes CEUs obtained through FACA classes, students will have to upload copies of their training certificates to FACTC via the website portal.

Certification Standards

Every certification course offered by the Florida Animal Control Training Commission is developed using Instructional Design Systems. This system ensures that courses are directly related to the job tasks performed by the student. This is accomplished by performing a job task analysis and then matching the curriculum to the job through a series of learning objectives and behavioral outcomes.  The result is high-quality, relevant training that maximizes a students retention of the course material.
