The 8-hour Dangerous Dog Investigator certification course is for law enforcement and animal control officers that seek certification in working dangerous dog investigations involving canine and feline animals.

Students will participate in classroom lectures and presentations that are designed to help them recognize the importance of conducting a thorough, professional dangerous dog investigation.

Topics

Topics for this course include but are not limited to dangerous breeds, civil liability, relevant animal case law, legal requirements for dangerous dog investigations, a review of F.S.S. 767 – Damage by dogs and dangerous dog investigations.

Standards

Students must attend all 8 hours of the training class, participate in discussions and pass a 50-question written examination.

Students who successfully complete this training class will be issued a certificate and photo identification card with the endorsement as a Dangerous Dog Investigator.

The 40-hour Professional Animal Cruelty Investigator: Canine & Feline Investigations investigator certification course is for law enforcement and animal control officers that seek certification in working animal cruelty investigations involving canine and feline animals.

Students will participate in scenario-based training exercises designed to simulate an animal cruelty investigation. Students will locate and identify animals, conduct animal welfare assessments, body condition score animals, document them photographically, create a crime scene sketch, write reports, complete assessment forms, and build a functional case file as part of this course.

Topics

Topics for this course include but are not limited to animal knowledge, welfare assessments, safe animal capture and restraint, search and seizure, crime scene analysis, case file development, report writing, relevant animal case law, animal removal, and officer safety and biosecurity.

Students must attend all 40 hours of the training class, participate in discussions and scenario-based training exercises, and pass a 100-question written examinations.

The 40-hour Professional Animal Cruelty Investigator: Equine Investigations investigator certification course is for law enforcement and animal control officers that seek certification in working animal cruelty investigations involving equine animals.

Students will participate in scenario-based training exercises designed to simulate an animal cruelty investigation. Students will locate and identify animals, conduct animal welfare assessments, body condition score animals, document them photographically, create a crime scene sketch, write reports, complete assessment forms, and build a functional case file as part of this course.

Topics for this course include but are not limited to species identification for commonly kept exotic mammals, reptiles, and birds, nutritional needs, proper shelter requirements, environment assessments, body condition scoring, safe capture and handling, and report writing.
